A man named Preston Morrow may have found some clues to help unravel the disappearance of Steve Fossett. Morrow was hiking in Eastern California when he spotted some items in some bushes, including; 3 different ID cards containing Steve Fossett's name and 1005.00 in cash. He said that he did not see any airplane wreckage or human remains. Morrow said that he turned the items over to local police after his attempts to reach the Fossett family failed.
A lawyer for the Fossett family says they are looking in to the reports to verify their truth. Authorities had been looking mostly in the Northern part of the state originally and called off the search after covering some 20,000 square miles. Mr. Fossett disappeared on September 3, 2007 and was declared legally dead in February 2008. This could be a major breakthrough in the case if the items are in fact Mr. Fossett's
What I found interesting is that Mr. Morrow did not even realize who Steve Fossett was when he found the items until some of his coworkers told him of the greater importance of what he had found. I tend to believe the report to be true since Mr. Morrow also turned over the cash to the authorities, he could have just as easily pocketed the money and no one would have been the wiser.
Hopefully these items will lead to the remains of Mr. Fossett and some closure for the Fossett family.
