I was looking around the internet trying to find an old friend of my named Dan. I thought that it would be a fairly easy task since his name is Dan P Neumeister I could not believe how many Dan Neumeisters there are in the world LOL.
I cam across this interesting blog in the process though, by one of the other Dan Neumeisters. He is the former Senior VP and CEO for Enloe Health systems. He now lives in Chico, California and started his blog to give his opinion and insights on the health care industry. I imagine he has a unique view from deep inside the workings of the hospitals themselves.
He wrote this one post that really made me think, about a prevalent theory on why it takes so long in the ER. It says that some people think it is because the hospitals want to keep some beds empty in case "paying" customers come in. WOW, I never thought of that possibility. Be Mr. Neumeister says that he does not think that this is true. He has been in the health care industry for over 27 years, so he must know more about it than I do, but it does make you think.
I live only 5 or 6 blocks from a hospital in my city and I drive 15-20 minutes away when I need to go to an ER because the one near me is so badly managed. It is very frustrating to be ill and get ignored for hours in a waiting room somewhere. I took my husband to an ER we had never been to before the other day and someone greeted us right away, made sure we knew where the paperwork was etc, We almost didn't know what to do with ourselves lol.
So anyway Dan, I may not find you before the holidays, but know you are thought of at this special time of year and always.
